I can't believe the size of my child’s backpack! Backpacks are being used by kids to carry everything, but can often cause problems when they are too heavy and fall apart. Children should be using a lightweight pack with padded shoulders and a waist belt and using them on BOTH sides of their shoulders to prevent back problems and bad posture. Children should never be carrying more than 15% of their body weight in their backpack.

Keep Your Cool Family Fun Fair!

It was a great day on Saturday, June 6, 2009 - make sure to come next year!

Over 1500 adults and children enjoyed The Family Tree's 3rd Annual Keep Your Cool Family Fun Fair! And it was all free of charge, thanks to our many wonderful Sponsors (see link below).

This was a fun afternoon of activities and education on how to ensure your family has a safe and healthy summer! Families on hand enjoyed story telling, hands on activities, relays, snacks, rides, and much more! A fun display of over 10,000 pinwheels in the Park raised awareness of the lives that can be changed by preventing child abuse; this powerful visual reminded all of us that we play a part in securing children’s safety. This event was also an educational campaign with valuable information available from 38 of our statewide partners.
