HOW TO HELP YOUR CHILD SUCCEED IN SCHOOL

Baltimore, MD (February 1, 2002) - The Family Tree, a statewide child abuse prevention agency, will offer a free seminar, "How to Help Your Child Succeed in School," on Monday, February 18th.  The seminar will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. at the New Shiloh Village Center, 2200 N. Monroe Street, in Baltimore. Angela Nunnelly, who has 33 years of experience teaching elementary school, will help parents see beyond the grade point average when determining academic success. She will also share practical suggestions with parents and caregivers that can make a positive difference in their child's school performance, as well as with the parent/child relationship. Ms. Nunnelly has also worked as a school guidance counselor and serves as a facilitator for The Family Tree's Positive Parenting Program classes.

Over 30,000 cases of child abuse and neglect are reported in Maryland each year. The Family Tree provides solutions to prevent child abuse and neglect by partnering with communities to build strong families. Last year, the agency helped more than 13,000 individuals, and offers services in more than 40 communities throughout Maryland with satellite offices in Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Harford and Prince George's counties. In addition, The Family Tree operates a free 24-hour crisis and referral hotline dedicated to serving parents and caregivers who are struggling with the ongoing stress and frustration of parenting.  The Family StressLine number is 1-800-243-7337.
