The Family Tree Chosen as Maryland's Chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America
Baltimore, MD, February 15, 2007. The Family Tree, Maryland's leading nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing child abuse, has been chosen as the Maryland chapter of the national Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA).
Since 1972, Prevent Child Abuse America has led the way in building awareness, providing education and inspiring hope to everyone involved in the effort to prevent the abuse and neglect of our nation's children. Working with 40 state chapters, they provide leadership to promote public awareness, public advocacy and implement ‘evidence based' prevention efforts at both the national and local levels. PCAA's work is focused on valuing children, strengthening families and engaging communities nationwide. Honorary Board Members include Bill Cosby, Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, Jack Nicklaus, and Bob Costas.
To become a Chapter for Prevent Child Abuse America, a State agency must share its mission, statewide focus, commitment to primary prevention, and be an advocate for state child abuse prevention funding. "We are proud to have The Family Tree as our Maryland Chapter," stated James M. Hmurovich, President and CEO of PCAA, "Together we can ensure that Maryland's children have the opportunity for bright, healthy futures."
Patricia K. Cronin, LCSW-C the Executive Director of The Family Tree, added "It is an honor to be associated with such a prestigious organization that shares our vision and commitment to children. Being a PCAA Chapter helps distinguish us as the leading non-profit in Maryland dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect. The Family Tree's association with PCAA will further its efforts to reduce child maltreatment in Maryland, and provide a greater advocacy resource, which will allow us to partner more effectively with families and communities in our state."
