The best way to deal with tantrums is to avoid them when possible. Try using these tips: try to give toddlers “some” control over things, such as when they will brush their teeth or the flavor of their juice; keep off-limit objects out of their sight and reach; distract your child when possible; choose your battles and accommodate them when you can. Even negative attention is better than no attention at all to a child, so make sure you're attending to the behaviors you want to encourage.
When mom got off the phone with the Parenting HelpLine, she was no longer angry. She apologized for raising her voice and gave us all a big hug. Things are so much better now.
