Help your child adjust to new situations by encouraging open communication, supporting their transition, acknowledging your own difficulties, and working together. If your child is not adjusting, reassure them about their strengths and help put this experience in the broader perspective of all his social connections.

The Family Tree believes we can be most effective for children and families through collaboration. To this end, we work closely with our national affiliates and state partners to address issues on federal, state and local levels. The Family Tree is committed to promoting legislation, policies and programs that help to prevent child abuse and neglect, support healthy childhood development, and strengthen families.

Contacting your legislators is one of the most important things you can do to advocate for Maryland's children and families. It's the legislators' job to listen and respond to the needs and concerns of their constituents. Letting them know you think child abuse prevention should be a legislative priority and will definitely advance the cause.
