Monitor your children's TV programs and the number of hours watching TV. The Academy of Pediatrics recommends no more than 2 hours of quality programs each day. As an alternative to TV parents can suggest outdoor play; offer a board game or reading as an alternative. The most important way to monitor TV is to watch programs together.

Support to Parents, Grandparents, and Care Givers. Professional and trained volunteers provide ongoing support to parents, grandparents and caregivers who need parenting tips, are struggling with caring for a new baby, have questions about child development or want to find resource organizations that provide family support in their communities.

Support to Children and Youth. The Family Tree's StressLine offers a safe and confidential place for children. Teens can discuss tough subjects such as family problems, family violence, bullying, peer relationships, victimization, and pregnancy.

Support to the Community at Large. Educators, students, faith organizations and various agencies throughout Maryland can call the StressLine for information preventing child abuse, as well as find referrals to community services professionals who assist victims and survivors of abuse.

The Family Tree staff and trained volunteers provide support, information, referral and connection with services.
